Longhorns Cody Johnson and David Snow to play in 87th East-West Shrine Game
Texas Longhorns senior offensive lineman David Snow and senior fullback Cody Johnson have accepted invitations to play in the 87th East-West Shrine Game®, the organizers of the game have announced. Thegame will be held Jan. 21, 2012 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.,kicking off at 3 p.m. CST and televised live on the NFL Network.
Hailing from Waller, Texas, Johnson is a fifth-year running back who appeared in 51 career games, including 15 starts. He has rushed 345 times for 1,465 yards (4.2 ypc) and 36 TDs in hiscareer. His 36 career touchdowns rank him tied for fifth all-time among Longhorn running backs. He also has 12 receptions for 95 yards for his career.
Snow is a fourth-year lineman who appeared in all 52 of his career games with 32 starts (14 at center, five at right guard, 13 at left guard). He started all 13 games for the Longhorns at left guard this season and earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors.
Johnson’s 24 TDs over his freshman and sophomore seasons are tied with Cedric Benson for second-most in schoolhistory over their first two seasons, trailing only Vince Young (25). In his freshman season (2008) he scored 12 TDs, tying Cedric Benson's UT freshman rushing TD record.
Snow was a 2011 second-team Academic All-Big 12 selection and in 2009 earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors. He was also a two-time member of UT's Athletics Director's Honor Roll (Fall 2009/Spring 2011).
The Longhorns have had a playerrepresent the University of Texas in this annual all-star game every year since 1996. Past Longhorns participants include TE David Thomas (2006), DE Brian Robison (2007), LB Scott Derry (2008), DT Derek Lokey (2008), DT Frank Okam (2008), DT Roy Miller (2009), CB Ryan Palmer (2009), K Hunter Lawrence (2010), TE Greg Smith (2011) and OL Kyle Hix (2011).
