Horns Hold On To Top Iowa State, 62-55

Myck Kabongo stole the show and the game for Texas Tuesday night.

Kabongo’s defense created a steal and easy bucket with 10 seconds left to put the win on ice for Texas in a 62-55 win over Iowa State.

“It feels great. During practice, we push each other, and we are getting better,” Kabongo said.  “Playing at home and winning, after losing to Kansas, is a good thing.”

The Longhorns (13-7, 3-4 Big 12) had lost three straight.  With Baylor and Missouri up next, UT needed a win like this.

“As long as we're making progress in the process, I'm happy with it. We played against a team that is having a great year,” Texas head coach Rick Barnes said.  “Overall, I think we made progress, but we still have a ways to go.”

J’Covan Brown’s shooting struggles continue.  He finished 3-16 from the field, putting him at 18-70 over the last 3 games.

“My shots were just not going in. Some of them were contested, but I can make tough shots,” Brown said.  “They just were not falling. You can give credit to the defense, but just overall they were not going in.”

Texas led by as many as 18 in the second half, but a Chris Babb three pulled Iowa State within three with 25 seconds left.  Royce White had 15 to lead the Cyclones.
