IN THE NEWS: PAKISTAN BLOCKS TWITTER
ISLAMABAD (AP) -- Access to Twitter in Pakistan has been restored -- but for a time yesterday, people there couldn't use the microblogging site. The government says it blocked the site because it refused to remove tweets considered to Islam. The tweets at issue promoted a competition on Facebook to post images of Islam's Prophet Muhammad. Many Muslims see depictions of the prophet -- even favorable ones -- as blasphemous. The government restored access to Twitter about eight hours after it first blocked access. It's unclear whether the site was restored because of action by Twitter or because of the public criticism Pakistan got for the move.
IN THE NEWS: MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO INTERNET-BASED PONZI SCHEME
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Florida man has pleaded guilty to running a Ponzi scheme on the Internet. Authorities say Thomas A. Bowdoin Junior of Quincy, Florida duped thousands of investors and misled them about his background as part of the scheme that raised more than $110 million. The guilty plea means Bowdoin faces a maximum sentence of six and a half years. No sentencing date was set, but a hearing is set for next month to determine whether he can stay free until he's sentenced.
