Austin Gilbert & Sullivan Society Offer Free Musicale February 26
By Rob Faubion, Austin On Stage www.austinonstage.com
Entertainers from previous summer grand productions will return to sing favorite songs from Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, beginning at 3 p.m. at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.
Stars from past Austin Gilbert and Sullivan Society productions will take to the stage for an afternoon of vocal performances, featuring favorite Gilbert and Sullivan operetta classics from previous summer grand productions. The free concert event plays St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, beginning at 3 p.m.
The Society continues its tradition of a leap year celebration with music and merriment for "Frederic," the hapless reformed pirate from The Pirates of Penzance, whose birthday – in a paradoxical twist of fate - is Leap Day. The concert will include musical selections from Patience - the Summer 2012 Grand Production being staged in June - along with numbers from Ruddigore, The Gondoliers, The Sorcerer, The Mikado, H.M.S. Pinafore and, of course, The Pirates of Penzance.
Performers slated to return include Stacey Amorous, Carol Brown, Trey Deason, Dan Girardot, Debra Johnson, Sam Johnson, Ezra Johnson, Jeffrey Jones-Ragona, Glay Posch, Meredith Ruduski and Katharine Shields. Pianist Marti Dudgeon will accompany the entertainers, with audience favorite Janette Jones serving as producer and Artistic Director Ralph MacPhail, Jr. taking the stage as the master of ceremonies.
St. Matthew's Episcopal Church is located at 8134 Mesa Drive. For more information, call (512) 472-GSSA (472-4772) or visit www.GilbertSullivan.org.
